B
- Bhang
- Bhang is an edible preparation made from the leaves and flower of the female cannabis plant, traditionally used in India for both medicinal and recreational purposes. It’s commonly consumed during cultural and religious festivals such as Holi and Shivaratri. Bhang can be mixed into drinks, such as the popular “bhang lassi” or “bhang thandai,” or mixed into food items like sweets and snacks.
C
- CB1 Receptors
- Cannabinoid receptors that are primarily found in the brain and central nervous system.
- CB2 Receptors
- Cannabinoid receptors that are primarily found in the immune system and peripheral organs.
- CBD (Cannabidiol)
- CBD is a non-psychoactive compound found in cannabis. It’s known for its therapeutic properties, including pain relief, anti-inflammatory effects, and anxiety reduction. Unlike THC, CBD does not produce a high and is often used for medicinal purposes.
- Cannabinoid
- Cannabinoids are a class of diverse chemical compounds that act on cannabinoid receptors in cells, altering neurotransmitter release in the brain. They are commonly found in the cannabis plant (Cannabis sativa), but can also be produced synthetically or occur naturally in the body (endocannabinoids).
- Concentrates
- Products made by extracting cannabinoids and terpenes from the cannabis plant, which results in a highly potent substance.
D
- Decarboxylation
- Decarboxylation is the process of heating cannabis to activate its cannabinoids, converting non-psychoactive compounds into their active forms. For example, THCA (tetrahydrocannabinolic acid) is converted into THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), the compound responsible for the psychoactive effects of cannabis.
E
- Endocannabinoid
- Endocannabinoids are naturally occurring compounds in the human body that bind to cannabinoid receptors. They play a crucial role in regulating physiological processes, such as mood, pain sensation, appetite, and memory. The endocannabinoid system helps maintain homeostasis within the body.
H
- Hashish
- Hashish, commonly known as hash, is a concentrated form of cannabis made by collecting and compressing the trichomes—the resinous glands on the cannabis plant that contain the highest concentration of cannabinoids, such as THC and CBD.
- Hemp
- Hemp is a variety of the Cannabis Sativa plant species grown specifically for industrial uses. Unlike other cannabis plants, hemp contains very low levels of THC (less than 0.3%), making it non-psychoactive. It’s used to produce a wide range of products, including textiles, paper, biodegradable plastics, and health foods.
I
- Indica
- Cannabis Indica is a species of cannabis known for its relaxing and sedative effects. Indica plants are shorter and bushier with wide leaves and are grown in cooler climates. They are commonly used in the evening or at night to promote relaxation, pain relief, and sleep.
S
- Sativa
- Cannabis Sativa is a species of cannabis known for its uplifting and energizing effects. Sativa plants are tall with thin leaves and are commonly grown in warm climates. They are often used during the day for their stimulating and cerebral effects and are popular for activities that require creativity and focus.
T
- THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol)
- THC is the primary psychoactive compound found in cannabis. It is responsible for the “high” that comes with marijuana use. THC interacts with the endocannabinoid system in the brain to produce effects such as euphoria, altered perception of time, and increased appetite.
- Terpenes
- Terpenes are aromatic compounds found in many plants, including cannabis. They give cannabis its distinctive smell and flavor. Terpenes also have various therapeutic effects and can influence the overall experience of a cannabis strain. Some common terpenes include myrcene, limonene, and pinene. Each terpene has unique properties, such as anti-inflammatory, anti-anxiety, or mood-enhancing effects.
- Tinctures
- Tinctures are liquid extracts made by soaking cannabis flower or isolates in alcohol or other solvents. They are used to deliver cannabinoids such as THC and CBD in a concentrated form and are typically administered sublingually (under the tongue) for quick absorption.
V
- Vijaya
- Vijaya is a term used in traditional Indian medicine (Ayurveda) to refer to cannabis. It is recognized for its medicinal properties and has been used historically in various forms to treat ailments such as pain, anxiety, and digestive issues.
